DETROIT IN PLAYOFF HUNT AFTER COMEBACK WIN OVER SWERVE

CINCINNATI, OH - Detroit remains in control of their playoff destiny after a 9-8 comeback victory against the Cincinnati Swerve. Earlier in the day, the Rochester Lancers lost at the Chicago Mustangs, 7-5, and now both teams are tied for 2nd place and the final playoff spot in the east with a 6-4 record.

The Waza Flo started off sluggish on the road conceding two early goals to the Swerve from Matthew Kinkopf and Sulieman Kayed. In a low scoring half, Detroit was able to cut the deficit in half when rookie Stennett Nyekanyeka tallied his first professional goal.

In what we've come to expect from the Flo this season, the second half offered much more action on the scoreboard. Kayed and Kinkopf connected again for a pair of goals go give Cincinnati a three goal lead early in the first. The Waza Flo started their comeback early when Saeed Tawil and Ramiro Sauceda answered to cut Cincy's lead down to 4-3 only to again concede another two Serve goals from Matthew Breines and Anders Michelson to bring the score to 6-3.

Detroit then started their final comeback when Khalid Suleiman netted his team-leading ninth goal of the season to end the 3rd period down by two goals. In the first 10 minutes of the final frame, the Flo scored four straight goals, two from RIcardo Lopes and two from Rodrigo Siquera, to take their first lead of the match, 8-6. Scott Shugh made things interesting moments later by making it a one-goal game before Lopes completed his hat trick and mount a two goal advantage. CIncinnati managed to score a goal with 54 seconds remaining but it was ultimately too little too late as the Flo completed their lrgest comeback of the season to remain in the playoff hunt and improve to 6-4.

Chicago's win guarantees them the top seed in the Eastern Division and they will host the 2nd placed team in a one-game playoff for the right to advance to the M2 four-team finals in Ontario, CA. WIth the loss, the CIncinnati Swerve have been eliminated from playoff contention and the race for the 2nd seed is down to Detroit and Rochester.

Detroit will host the same Cincinnati Swerve in their final home game of the 2019 season on Saturday, March 2nd at the Detroit City Fieldhouse. Tickets for the match can be found on wazaflo.com. Should the Waza Flo win, it would set up a winner-take-all match on Friday, March 8th against the Rochester Lancers in Rochester, NY. The Lancers finish the season against the Muskegon Risers on March 9th but all will have already been determined the night before.
