WAZA FLO TOP MUSTANGS FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON

DETROIT, MI - On Saturday night, the Waza Flo beat M2 rival and last year's champion, the Chicago Mustangs, 5-3 to earn their first win of the season.

The Flo returned to their roots in Detroit as they opened up their home schedule in the newly built Detroit City Field House. While the roster has seen many fresh faces break into the M2 Soccer League, the Flo returned many veterans and fan-favorites including all three Scicluna brothers and former Brazilian National Team star Marcelo Goncalves. The mix of old and new showed markable improvements on the scoreboard as the Waza got into the winning column against a team they have not seen much success against in years past.

The Waza Flo were the first to crack the scoresheet when Ricardo Lopes fired a bullet into the net. The two teams then traded the lead before Chicago's Ryan Ybarra halved the deficit moments later. Aaron Byrd increased the margin back to two goals with just over a minute left to play in the first half to give the hosts a 3-1 advantage heading into the break.

Mustang midfielder, Louis Albert III, gave the visitors hope after he scored first in the second half but Joey Tinnion helped  ice the game away by adding a tally of his own to increase the Waza lead. Alexis Camarena added a late goal for Chicago but all efforts came up just short as the Flo walked away with a much needed victory 5-3.

This was the first defeat of the season for the reigning champion Mustangs as they fall to 3-1 on the season. The Waza Flo improve to 1-2 and they now head east to face former MASL2 foe, the Rochester Lancers in New York next weekend for their opening game in their inaugural M2 season. Chicago heads back home to take on the Muskegon Risers (1-2) next weekend as well.
